WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills have been taking care of business on the gridiron since 1960. But 64 years is child play to the oldest member of the Bills Mafia Babes.
Not many people can say they've been a fan or gone to games since the beginning.
"Since at least [1962]. But like, not in this stadium; the other one, the rock pile," said 101-year-old Bills fan "Aunt Rita" Michaels.
The Michaels family meets up regularly with a legend among the Mafia - affectionately, everyone's "Aunt Rita."
Of course, with more than a century of watching games and 60-plus years as a fan, she's been through it all.
"I don't remember his name? But the quarterback, he had to change helmets because he kept throwing interceptions," she said. "Oh, when they were bad, they were bad. But when they were good, they were good."
More often than not, the Bills have made fans want to shout and Rita has never been an exception.
"We didn't go to the games too much, but we would get it [at] one or another's house because I would scream and yell. They [would] tell me, they hear me from blocks away."
She listened and watched early broadcasts at home with her sons.
"[The] first time I sat with them, I made too much noise. 'Go back in the bedroom,'" she remembered.
It's something that still rings true in her retirement home.
"I have to stay in my room. But then I got the boy next to me and [kept] pounding on the wall. Keep it down."
But much like a team and a supportive family....
"No matter what they do, you still stick by them. You really do," Rita added.
This is why Rita's niece Cathy and her family come regularly to visit through thick and thin.
"Life's hard enough," Cathy said. "Just watch the Bills and have a good time."
They all sport their blue and red.
"We love each other's company," she said. "When we can get together."
And they admire more than a lifetime of wisdom on top of Bills experience.
"It's an amazing it's an amazing journey that she's had and I'm blessed to have her and my daughters and granddaughters and my godchild, here today," she said."
For Aunt Rita, you can barely tell she's lost a step since 1962, the year or the age.
"One of these times, we are going to get a Super Bowl here," Rita said. "I really believe that."
