ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Some people get to make their way down to Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park the pinnacle of a Buffalo Bills game day, while others may be stuck behind the wheel on the highway or just need that mental image of what’s taking place on the field.

Thanks to people from the Bills radio network and the official voice of the team, Chris Brown, it’s kind of like being at the game anyway.

"I didn't have cable television in my house, so when a lot of professional teams went to cable, I couldn't watch them,” said Brown. “I listened on the radio.”

Decades ago, he headed out west to chase a dream.

"I got started in radio the way a lot of people do — for absolute peanuts," he said. "I remember I was working at an oldies station playing oldies CDs and giving away topsoil and firewood on the air, and people were calling for it."

It wasn't too long until he found himself home with a team and fanbase that would help him grow.

"I fortunately started working for the Bills back in 2006 and have been on the Bills radio network as a pregame analyst since 2003," said Brown. "So my first year on the Bills radio network was Van Miller's last year calling games. And I worked with John Murphy for 20 years, so just learned a lot from those two guys."

The legacy and responsibility are far from lost to the man picking up the play-by-play reigns for the next generation.

"I'm certainly privileged and honored to do it because I know I'm connecting a lot of people driving around in their cars or without access to a television,” said Brown. “I'm connecting them to the team that they love."

Chris' partner in the booth and former Buffalo Bill, Eric Wood, can attest.

"I'm excited about this next chapter in the booth,” said Wood. “And look — Van Miller, absolute legend. We got pictures of him on the wall in here. You know, John Murphy will be exactly the same and will always be remembered for all the incredible work he did in the broadcast booth. And I'm excited for Chris to get his opportunity to put his name in with those two."

It's not exactly their first days together on the job, but it is the beginning of a new voice for Bills Mafia’s airwaves.

"I don't want to compare ourselves to anybody else, but I will say this," Wood started. "It was easy to work with Chris from the start, and I feel like we've grown in our chemistry and I'm excited where that can go over years and years of working together. And Chris is so good at setting up the play, explaining what happened, giving those that are just listening to the radio broadcast a perfect picture, and then giving me the time to use my football knowledge and my game experience to be able to shed a little bit more light on that. So I'm excited for the years to come."

And while hearing 'Brownie’ on the broadcast is great, even he's a big advocate of fans coming down to the stadium for a game or two to catch the sights and sounds themselves.

"I mean, here on a fall afternoon when the sun's shining and people are in a froth for football, it's just tough to beat," said Brown.
