Five outdoor swimming pools will officially open for the summer around Buffalo on Monday, July 1, Mayor Byron Brown announced Thursday.

Centennial Outdoor Pool, Houghton Outdoor Pool, JFK Outdoor Pool, Kensington Outdoor Pool and Riverside Outdoor Pool will open to the public.

"We are very excited that more pools are opening, thanks to city youth who trained to be city lifeguards this season," Brown said. "I want to thank our returning and new lifeguard staff for stepping up, as well as the Division of Parks and Recreation and the Police Athletic League of Buffalo, for its commitment to our robust lifeguard recruitment and training program. This is an excellent opportunity for our youth to make money as a lifeguard, while ensuring children and their families have a safe place to cool off and swim."

The Cazenovia-Connors, Kait, Harrity Memorial Pool and Lovejoy pools are also open.

Ten splash pads will be open daily, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. after the school year ends on June 25, including:

  • Ralph Wilson Park - foot of Porter Ave.
  • Allison Park - Reese St., adjacent to Asarese-Matters Community Center
  • MLK Jr. Park Basin - Best St. and Fillmore Ave.
  • Lanigan Park - South Park Ave., west of Louisiana St.
  • Lincoln Park - foot of Quincy St.
  • Cazenovia Park - behind the park casino
  • Houghton Park - foot of Spahn St.
  • Schiller Park - Sprenger St. side of park
  • Roosevelt Park - foot of Roosevelt Ave.
