Nonprofit group VIA: Visually Impaired Advancement in Buffalo received a $10,000 digital education grant from Spectrum on Thursday.

Spectrum says the group will use the money to help visually-impaired seniors better use technology.

It's part of a larger program from the company aimed at helping support broadband in underserved areas.

"Having access to broadband, it's important,” said Leah Halton-Pope, Buffalo Common Council majority leader. “It's important just in everyday lives, but when we have differing abilities, it's more challenging and we need to be able to have access."

Charter Communications is the parent company of Spectrum and Spectrum News 1.
