An affordable housing project is underway in East Buffalo.
Construction at the future home of the Mt. Olive Senior Manor on East Delevan Avenue began on Monday.
The project will create 65 new apartments for those 55 years of age or older.
People Inc., Mt. Olive Baptist Church and the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative teamed up on the $27 million project.
"This project is another great sign for our community, and I can't thank Mt. Olive Development Corporation and People Inc. enough for what they are doing to provide for residents in our community," said Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.
Gov. Kathy Hochul's $25 billion comprehensive Housing Plan played a key role in getting the project, which is state-funded, off the ground.
“Mt. Olive Senior Manor continues my administration’s commitment to restoring East Buffalo through new developments that offer safe, stable, and affordable homes,” Hochul said in a statement. “Senior housing is a critical part of my housing agenda to ensure that New York seniors can stay close to family and loved ones in the communities they call home. I will continue to leverage our extraordinary partnerships with faith-based groups like Mount Olive Development Corporation that build strong communities and connect New Yorkers to the services they need to thrive and live independently.”
