Dalton Kincaid’s first ever NFL training camp has many new experiences. One of the biggest has been what he’s seen in the stands.
“At Utah we didn’t have any fans at the game,” Kincaid said. “No media even. San Diego, our games probably didn’t have this many fans at them. So it’s a big change, but it’s a lot of fun. Just interacting with Bills Mafia after, signing autographs, just talking to a bunch of people, it’s a pretty cool experience.”
So many of those eyes are focusing on Kincaid more than most of the other 89 players on the field.
Kincaid looks at himself differently.
“I kind of see myself as just a rookie,” he said. “Regardless of how you got here, that’s your role. You’re a rookie. Just kind of accepting that and not getting too high, not getting too low.”
There’s been many more highs than lows so far in camp, finding Josh Allen passes in his hands on a regular basis.
The physical talents are evident. It’s the other stuff that’s a work in progress regardless of the early results.
“The mental side of things is probably the biggest focus right now,” he said. “Just knowing the whole playbook and the adjustments and changes we make. Josh is very crafty out there, so any changes he makes post-snap, being ready for it.”
“He’s still a rookie, right,” head coach Sean McDermott said. “He’s working hard to learn the playbook. Learn the nuances of the playbook. Get on the same page as Josh. All those things take time and it takes reps. The other piece is the blocking piece that’ll be on display when we put the pads on.”
The pads are set to come on Monday for the first time this camp, and Kincaid’s prepared for it, saying he knows his ‘Welcome to the NFL moment’ is coming, whether that be in practice or games.
