Most malls no longer have the attendance they used to have, say, ten years ago. But a new business is opening in the McKinley Mall is trying to draw in, not so much shoppers, but rather skaters.

The new Food Court Skatepark opens up on Sunday.

Owner Weldon Jones says it’s for skateboarders, in-line skaters, quad skaters, and scooterers. Jones says you can also just be an observer. The indoor skate park will allow people to skate in the winter and bad weather. He hopes to bring more people to the mall as well.

“Well, this mall has so much potential and just getting people in I think is the biggest step because they’ll see that there’s a lot of spaces in here that are really, really viable,” Jones said. “And it’d be awesome to have just new ideas and new concepts of stores being placed in this mall.”

The grand opening is at noon on Sunday.
