The Kensington Expressway is set for a major project designed to reunite the Humboldt Parkway.

“Our goal is to repair and heal this wound so that the residents of East Buffalo, those who live here today, and future generations will not just live here but thrive here,” said Marie Therese Dominguez, NYS Department of Transportation commissioner.

The proposed plan would turn the overpass into a green space inspired by other Olmstead Parks.

Traffic would still flow underneath through a tunnel and the intersection at Best Street would become a roundabout. Upgrades to sidewalks, ADA ramps and street lighting are also part of the facelift.

Local leaders said this investment is a huge step in the right direction for development in East Buffalo.

The proposed plans are set for public comment at the Buffalo Museum of Science on June 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

If all goes according to plan, the hope is to break ground in 2024.
