BUFFALO, N.Y. — Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz laid out his vision for the future during his State of the County address Thursday.

Poloncarz announced investments of $20 million in housing with unspent American Rescue Plan funds, $150 million into sewer districts for a cleaner Lake Erie, $2.5 million in a combined holding center and the creation of Erie County’s own ambulance service.

He also noted all that Western New Yorkers have gone through the past year, including deadly winter weather and the May 14 mass shooting.

Poloncarz recognized those who helped in the wake of last spring's tragedy.

“Whether ensuring that a community turned into a food desert had access to fresh food or providing mental health and other crisis services to those traumatized by the mass shooting, our teams jumped into action, worked with our many partners and helped lead all through,” said Poloncarz.

He wrapped up the address talking about the new Buffalo Bills stadium, noting it will keep the team in Western New York through 2055, and that an agreement was negotiated to cap the county's contribution to the project at $250 million.

"The lease also includes a robust Community Benefits Agreement that is the result of vigorous negotiations between the county and team," said Poloncarz. "Because of the steadfast resolve of our county negotiating team, we got the best CBA for any community with an NFL team."

This is a developing story.
