WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — A Canisius High School student is named a hero after saving his neighbor’s home from a fire.
Arcangelo Capozzolo was granted the American Legion Auxiliary Youth Hero Award for his actions that saved a family’s home in October.
He said he was getting off the bus at home in Williamsville when he noticed a fire in his neighbor’s garage. No one was home besides one cleaning person who got outside safely on her own.
Capozzolo wasted no time running toward the house and getting the garden hose to put out the fire, which he said had started near a paint can and old rags.
When he called 911 and help arrived, the fire was mostly out besides some smoldering.
“There was no thinking about it, it was kind of the adrenaline that set in ultimately," said Capozzolo, a junior. "I wasn’t really thinking about the alternatives, I was just trying to put the fire out at the time.”
Capozzolo also received the Good Citizen Award from the Harris Hill Volunteer Fire Company for this act of selflessness. He said he is on track to become a firefighter after graduation.
