The Ed Smith School in Syracuse said it is spending time to educate, learn and celebrate Black history for its 20th annual celebration of Black History Month.

The celebration featured guests like Alice Moore, a civil rights activist who took part in the march from Selma to Montgomery, Ala., in 1965. She was also there for Bloody Sunday, and even spoke to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

She said she expressed to students while there have been improvements over the years, there is still work to be done.

"And I reflect back on that day when I talk about it now, and tell them what I went through, and what they are going through, is some of the same things but in a different way," she said.

The school also welcomed Karon Riley, a fromer NFL player who appeared in movies and TV shows.

On top of the big names, school officials, community members and students also spoke about the positive impact of being inclusive at the school.
