CLARENCE CENTER, N.Y. — Fourteen years after Colgan Air 3407 crashed into a home on Long Street in Clarence Center, NY, families of the 50 people who died honor their memory.

“You always, you know, hope that each year it’ll be easier but the emotion always returns,” said Karen Wielinski, whose home was destroyed in the crash. She and her daughter Jill escaped but her husband Doug died.

“It’s hard,” she said. “It’s a part of your life. You can’t get away from it no matter what you do.”

The Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) hosted a ceremony with the families, where they laid a wreath at the memorial site and celebrated the progress made in aviation safety thanks to loved ones turned advocates.
