BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalonians walked together this weekend to raise awareness for mental health, as well as to raise funds for those in need of mental health support.
Organizers say at least 1,700 people gathered at Canalside Saturday to send a simple message, that suicide is preventable and no one is alone.
The Out of the Darkness Walk, organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, takes place in more than 400 cities nationwide throughout the year.
The event also provided informational resources and educational activities for people of all ages.
"We also host additional events throughout the year,” organizer Tiffany Rollea said. “Again, it’s an opportunity for us to educate and provide to advocate as an organization."
As of Saturday afternoon, Buffalo's 12th-annual walk had raised almost $230,000.
Their goal is to raise $250,000.
