BUFFALO, N.Y. — Music is making its way to downtown Buffalo with the Queen City Jazz Festival.

Held for the first time in front of the Central Library, the event honor the rick history of jazz music created in Buffalo, where Black musicians could play freely during a time of segregation.

You’ll find food trucks and local vendors on the playlist, along with Buffalo jazz greats like George Caldwell, Zuri Appleby and Millennial Montage and 10-time Grammy award-winning artists Take 6.

Organizers say highlighting the contribution of Buffalo artists in the jazz world is important so the next generation know the sky is the limit.

“So we want to show either the up and coming musicians or the ones that are out there doing it now,” George Scott, Colored Musicians Club board member, said. “So again, it's pretty awesome music, but hopefully we can inspire maybe some young kids that want to pick up the horn or the piano, whatever, and play and maybe we talking about a future star.“

Beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, the streets around the library, including Broadway between Washington and Ellicott, will be closed to traffic until midnight.
