BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown says a survey was done of those who live in the Jefferson Avenue area, and found that many people were not aware of the Instacart service, in which people can have groceries delivered to their home or have curbside pickup for their items.

On Friday, Brown announced that Instacart will provide 10 free deliveries per customer for orders over $35 to those who live in the Tops on Jefferson Avenue area and all of the Tops stores in the city.

Residents were also taught how to order their groceries at Friday’s event. Brown says people can also order for family members and other people as well. He says if you get public benefits like SNAP or an EBT card, you can also order your groceries using your benefit card. Officials say these options are useful for those who are not yet comfortable shopping in person.

"So if you look out in this parking lot, the parking lot is full. There are very few spaces in this parking lot. So as the manager of the Jefferson Avenue Tops said, people are in different places. Some people are not ready to come back and other people are very ready to come back, and people have been shopping here in large numbers every single day,” said Brown. “So what we are collectively doing is providing supports for members of our community that are in different places. If you’re not ready to come back, there are people who will deliver your groceries for you, whether it’s the Peacemakers or FATHERS, or Instacart.”

Instacart and also donated groceries to 300 people who attended the event.
