BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Matt Urban Center in Buffalo received $50,000 through Spectrum Community Assist. It's part of the company's five-year $30 million initiative to give back to local community centers and invest in job training programs for residents.
Around 80 Spectrum employees, family members and volunteers gathered at the Matt Urban Center Saturday morning to celebrate the donation and roll up their sleeves to get to work painting, landscaping and doing all sorts of improvement projects on the center.
The Matt Urban Center has been serving East Buffalo, Cheektowaga and West Seneca for the past 45 years, with a commitment to promote racial equity.
Local leaders joined Spectrum during the inauguration.
"We appreciate it here on the East Side of Buffalo for all you do,” said Buffalo Deputy Mayor Ellen Grant. “The revitalization work, the job training opportunities that Spectrum is going to give and specially the broadband services, which is more needed in many of our homes on the East Side who cannot afford it, so thank you!"
Spectrum also donated 25 new laptops to support the organization’s training and technology programs.
