BUFFALO, N.Y. — After public outcry postponed Buffalo Common Council’s redistricting vote on Friday, residents and organizations continue to voice their opinions on the Common Council’s proposed redistricting map.

City residents joined Our City Action Buffalo (OCAB) at a press conference Tuesday and said they are concerned the proposed map splits neighborhoods and voting interests.

“It doesn’t do anything to help neighborhoods help themselves,” said Jessie Fisher of the Ellicott District. “It does nothing to empower citizens.”

Council held a public hearing on June 28, where people voiced concerns, then rushed to vote on the map July 1, when council has until July 31 to revise.

Council President Darius Pridgen said in a statement:

"The Council had decided to delay Friday’s meeting in order to provide more time to review and consider the details associated with the proposed maps and public input. We will be rescheduling this meeting at a future date to be determined.”

In the meantime, OCAB submitted an alternative to the council’s proposal with a petition with 750 signatures to the city clerk’s office.
