BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy is thinking pink for a special event on Tuesday.
Front Park will be filled with pink plastic flamingos as 100 volunteers attempt to line up 4,260 decorative birds as part of a fundraiser for the conservancy. That magic number is for Fredrick Olmsted's 200th birthday, which was April 26.
They're trying to reclaim the Guinness World Record for the longest line of garden flamingos they once held in 2018. They only held the record for one year, but now they're ready to take back the title.
The flamingos are available to adopt for $10, and all the money raised goes into back the park, which is part of continuing the Olmsted legacy of making beautiful parks for everyone to enjoy.
“It’s just activating the parks, because that’s what Fred would’ve wanted," said Stephanie Crockatt, executive director of the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy. "He wants his parks to be used by the people, and so that’s what we’re doing.”
To officially set the record, each bird has to be touching the other in succession. Judging starts at noon on Tuesday.
