BUFFALO, N.Y. — Summer kicks off what AAA road safety experts call the “100 Deadliest Days” as teen drivers hit the roads more frequently.
According to AAA, from 2011 to 2020, an average of seven people per day died in teen driver-related crashes during the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
“So it’s very important that they are on the lookout, that they are absorbing other information and they have that good visual search that they’re looking for, for any possibility while they’re driving,” said Mark Formanowicz, AAA Driver Training.
Road safety experts suggest talking to teen drivers early and often about the importance of giving their undivided attention to the road, practicing at least 50 hours with them and turning off notifications on the phone while driving.
