BUFFALO, N.Y. — Free counseling resources on Buffalo’s East Side are set up to address the mental health impacts of the mass shooting at Tops earlier this month.

Walk-in services are available at the Johnnie B. Wiley Center from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. until May 27 to address trauma and grief associated with the incident.

“I was almost halfway and we heard the shots and I said, ‘come on, come on, come on.’ We started running and went to the house,” said Edwin Cruz, who lives on Riley Street and adds that he’s been having trouble sleeping.

Counselors are on site to help people navigate what they may be feeling now days after the shooting.

“I think that everyone kind of feeling what I’ve seen the consensus is that we’re angry,” said Erica Seymour, from Endeavor. “And I think it’s totally OK to be that way.”

As of May 24, a county spokesperson said 190 people have come to seek counseling.
