BUFFALO, N.Y. — From canned goods and pasta, to soap and paper products, the humanitarian response to help the East Side of Buffalo get the supplies it needs has been a true community partnership.
FeedMore WNY continues to work with several key partners as volunteers are quickly sorting, bagging and boxing donations at the location on Holt Street.
Donations are coming from the community members and corporate partners as well. Crews started working over the weekend, as FeedMore is also accepting monetary donations too.
FeedMore WNY has set up two mobile emergency food distribution sites: one at the Johnnie B. Wiley Pavilion on Jefferson Avenue, daily from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the other at the Resource Council of Western New York on East Ferry Street, open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. both locations will be available through running May 27.
Dozens of volunteers are working nonstop unloading truckloads of boxes and handing out grocery bags and other items people impacted from Tops being closed.
Neighbors says despite their struggles, they'll keep their heads held high as they remain grateful for the help.
"I'm happy that it's happening but I mean it's sad at the same time,” said Dijon Joyner, of Buffalo. “I would have never thought in a million years that it would happen in Buffalo. And that's really sad."
"Bring a little light to the darkness,” said Catherine Shick, FeedMore WNY public relations manager. “We are showing that love is greater than hate. And the community is taking a very loud, very active stance showing that no, this is not OK. We love one another. We love our neighbors here in the city of Buffalo and we will help one another."
