BUFFALO, N.Y. — In the wake of Saturday’s mass shooting at a Tops in Buffalo, Gov. Kathy Hochul says the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority is suspending bus fare collection on select routes.
With the Tops on Jefferson Avenue still closed, the goal is to help the affected community access other grocery stores.
Hochul says they're also encouraged to use the bus routes for essential services like grief and mental health counseling.
The suspension will be effective on Routes #12-Utica, #13-Kensington, #18-Jefferson and #24-Genesee through the end of May.
Hochul also announced that people who live in the zip codes 14208 and 14209 can receive discounted rides via Lyft and Uber to and from the Tops on Niagara Street and Price Rite on Elmwood Avenue.
Lyft riders can use the code ‘BuffaloLyftUp’ for up to $25 in the Lyft app, while Uber users will receive $20 off their ride by using the code ‘SHOPBUF.’
