LEWISTON, N.Y. — Niagara University has received a massive gift of $10 million from two alumni.

It makes Jeffrey and Mary Helen Holzschuh the largest benefactors in the history of the university.

To recognize the gift, NU is rebranding its business school as the Holzschuh College of Business Administration.

A portion of the money will go to the trustee scholarship program for students in the business school, as well as those enrolled in the NU nursing program. Another portion will be used to support the men’s and women’s basketball programs.

"The impact of a gift like that is really on the students' and the students' experience at the university,” Thomas Burns, of NU public relations, said. “That's who it touches the most. It changes their lives for many of them."

The Holzschuhs both graduated from Niagara University in 1982. Jeffrey serves as class president and captain of the Purple Eagles basketball team. Mary Helen used her nursing degree to work in Pediatric Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
