BUFFALO, N.Y. — It’s Good Friday, so time is running out to get your hands on a true Buffalo staple – a butter lamb from the Broadway Markey.
Malczewski’s is one of the more than 40 vendors taking part in the holiday festivities at the Broadway Market and they have the all-important butter lambs. The market has been packed with people making sure they have one for their Easter spread come Sunday.
“My husband George and I have everything at stake,” Linda Lund, Babcia’s Pierogi owner, said. “We really count on the business at Easter time. It’s what gets you through half the year, so it’s very important for us to have a good holiday, but it’s also very important for people to realize that we are open year round, Monday through Saturday.”
For many, it is a return to normal after the Broadway Market for their Easter spread come Sunday. For others, it’s the all-in-one stop that means so much to their families.
“It’s the Easter tradition, gotta come for the butter lamb, polish sausage, ham, rye bread, the whole shebang,” Shirley Hillebrand of Corfu, said.
“I take one of the lambs home every year for our tradition,” Sheila Dombrowski, Camelia Meats, said. “My granddaughter is a big fan of them. She can’t wait to be 15 to come work at the stand with me.”
If you want to visit the Broadway Market, you have from now until 7 p.m. today or from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday.
