BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo has suspended their sister city status with the Russian city of Tver in support of Ukraine and its people.
The Buffalo Common Council has agreed to Mayor Byron Brown's suspension of the relationship at the request of the Ukrainian General Consulate.
The council is instead committing its support to Buffalo's sister cities in Ukraine.
The executive order guarantees the relationship between Buffalo and Tver will return to normal once the hostilities in Ukraine come to an end and the Russian military withdraws from the country.
Buffalo and Tver became sister cities in 1989 to engage in cultural exchange events.
