The personal data of about 1,300 Catholic Health may be at risk following a cybersecurity breach.

Ciox Health, the information management company that handles patient records for Catholic Health, had an incident where an unauthorized user downloaded billing and customer service emails from an employee account.

Catholic Health says the incident occurred between June 24 and July 2 of last year.

Ciox says the information at risk may have included names, birth dates, health insurance information and medical record numbers.

"While Ciox’s investigation did not find any instances of fraud or identity theft as a result of this incident, out of an abundance of caution, Ciox is working with its customers to notify affected patients. Ciox recommends individuals affected review billing statements from their healthcare providers and health insurers and contact them immediately if they see charges for services they did not receive," a press release read. "Ciox takes the privacy and confidentiality of the information it maintains very seriously, and continuously evaluates its security procedures with industry best practices. To help prevent an incident like this from happening again, the company is continuing to identify additional security measures."

This unauthorized user did not have access to any full medical records and no fraud or identity theft has been reported in connection with the incident.

Ciox has started to send letter to people who are affected. It’s also set up a call center for any questions at 855-618-3107. The call center is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
