BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Common Council is moving to form a new Police Advisory Board after dissolving the previous group earlier this month.
Council members unanimously approved a resolution to create a new Community Police Advisory Committee.
The previous advisory board has logistical and structural issues, including no public by-laws or process for replacing members who resign.
"I am looking forward to what this new body will accomplish," said Niagara District Council Member David A. Rivera. "It is incredibly important that we give the community the ability to weigh in on topics relating to community police relations and this resolution ensures that the Council achieves this goal."
The Common Council said this new advisory committee will be required to establish a clear set of rules for meeting structure and leadership roles.
"If you are looking to make a difference in your city and believe you would be a great member of the Council’s Community Police Advisory Committee, we would love to hear from you," said Rivera.
Any candidates for the committee will need to be confirmed by the Common Council. You can apply on the city’s website at buffalony.gov.
