SOUTH BUFFALO, N.Y. — Folks in South Buffalo are very excited, as they’re ready to show off their Irish heritage over the next two weeks.

They are also pretty pumped about one event in particular.

After two years without the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Buffalo's Old First Ward, it will make a triumphant return on Saturday.

The 27th “Old Neighborhood” St. Patrick’s Day Parade steps off March 19 at noon.

It’s hosted by The Valley Community Association.

This year's grand marshal is Gene Overdorf, who served as president of the Old First Ward Center for several years.

Overdorf also oversaw the creation of the new Old First Ward Community Association on Republic Street.

The honor is one Overdorf considers to be very prestigious.

"I'm honored,” he said. “Honored to be the grand marshal. How many parades have there been now? Twenty-seven. Twenty-seven, I believe. So that means only 27 other people have had this opportunity before me. That's something to be proud of. "

Saturday's Parade will start right outside of the Valley Community Center on Leddy Street, and will come to an end at the intersection of Louisiana and South streets.
