There are increasing concerns that Canada’s border could close once again.

Right now, the Canadian government is advising against international travel in response to the omicron variant.

A few weeks ago there were even talks of a new border policy that would institute further travel restrictions.

U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins says getting people vaccinated is the only way to bring the pandemic to an end and ensure the border will stay open.

"The border should not be closed," Higgins said. "I don’t believe it ever should have been closed because I think the United States and Canada had a similar strategy and I think that sometimes, their messaging was confused as well. Am I concerned about the border closing again? Yes, I am. Am I going to fight to keep it open and get a more traditional opening of that border? I absolutely am going to."

Right now, people traveling to Canada must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test result or proof of a previous positive test result at least 14 days ago.
