BUFFALO, N.Y. — You'll once again be able to ring in the new year in Roosevelt Plaza.

Buffalo's ball drop is scheduled to take place with in-person events, including fireworks.

Last year's ball drop at the Electric Tower was closed to the public.

Mayor Byron Brown says there are concerns with COVID-19 cases once again on the rise.

"We are reminding people of the county mask mandate,” he said. “We are asking people who are vaccinated to get vaccinated; people who have been vaccinated to get their booster shot."

The ball drop is also a fundraiser for the Police Athletic League of Buffalo. This year, proceeds will help the organization buy a second van.

City crews will do a test drop on December 28.
