NEW YORK — The NYPD is inspecting 2,000 body cameras after an officer's device ignited.
Police say the cop noticed smoke emitting from the device Tuesday and pulled it off before it ignited.
An investigation found there was a possible issue with the battery.
Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said the 2,000 devices are out of about 23,000 NYPD body-worn cameras.
The police department was already in the process of phasing them out for a different model, according to the NYPD.
