BUFFALO, N.Y. — A recent study published in the European Heart Journal says falling asleep from 10 – 11 p.m. is the sweet spot for heart health.
Experts say that the quality of sleep you get is just as important as the quantity.
While leaning on that extra cup of coffee gives you a boost through the day, it may affect your internal clock and how you sleep through the night.
One in five car crashes are due to sleep deprivation and it can even cause higher risk of stroke, cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. But medical experts say it’s a simple fix of setting a schedule and making your rest a priority.
“First, make sleep a priority,” Dr. Archana Mishra, M.D., associate professor of medicine at the University at Buffalo, said. “It is one of our physiological needs. Just like you, you know, water, food, breathing. Sleep is as essential as that. And that's something we tend to forget.”
