BUFFALO, N.Y. — Stand-Up Buffalo, a rental assistance program for Buffalo residents, has been relaunched. The program will provide at least an additional $2 million in assistance to qualifying renters who owe six months or less of unpaid rent.
It’s thanks to a partnership between the city of Buffalo and Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency.
The program is meant for income eligible residents who need help fully covering the cost of their rent now that the state Emergency Rental Assistance Program has been shut down. That program ran out of money last week.
“No family should have to begin the holiday season in danger of being evicted. My Administration is committed to using every resource available to help those who are still struggling to pay their rent and have been counting on assistance from the state program,” Mayor Byron Brown said. “We’ve re-launched Stand-Up Buffalo to help bridge the gap.”
Since Stand-Up Buffalo was originally launched in February, more than 2,600 city of Buffalo residents have received a combined $17.4 million in aid.
