BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo's mayor has not yet officially won his bid for re-election, though incumbent Byron Brown’s write-in campaign is still a source of some friction with the Democratic Party.
Multiple outlets, including Politico and the Wall Street Journal, report top progressive figures are calling for Brown to be removed from his position on the Democratic National Committee.
Members of the left-wing are reportedly upset that Brown decided to continue his campaign after losing the Democratic primary to India Walton. They claim he courted wealthy donors from both parties to help defeat a working-class candidate. Walton is echoing calls for Brown’s removal, claiming he renounced the Democratic Party in court and teamed up with Trump supporters to fuel his campaign.
Brown declared victory in the general election with 59% of votes cast for write-in candidates.
If that holds, it will be Brown’s fifth terms in office, making him the longest-serving mayor in Buffalo history.
