BUFFALO, N.Y. — Democratic nominee India Walton has not conceded the Buffalo mayoral race.

Walton says she will only concede if she is still losing after all votes are counted. The Erie County Board of Elections won't begin the process of counting any write-in votes until Nov. 15.

She currently trails the write-in spot by almost 10,000 votes, most of which are expected to be for incumbent Byron Brown.

Walton surprised everyone when she won the Democratic primary this past June and won backing from major progressive figures, including Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders.

“My plea was for folks to vote their conscience — in this election, both on the local, statewide and national level,” Walton said.

Walton thanked all of her supporters and said she looks forward to working with any elected officials moving forward.
