Niagara County officials are warning residents of a new scam.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, it targets the older population in the county.
The scam is very simple, residents are receiving phone calls saying their family member has been arrested and is in jail. The victims are being told that someone will stop by their homes to pick up the bail money to bail out their loved ones.
So far, at least four Niagara County residents have fell victim to this scam, losing thousands of dollars.
If you receive any phone calls like this, reach out to your family members directly to make sure they are not behind bars. Then make sure you call police to report the call.
