BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Queen City is applauding local volunteers for working to help thousands of residents.

Community leaders joined city officials in the Masten District Wednesday to wrap up another season of Buffalo’s Clean Sweep initiative.

They teamed with local health and human services providers to restore, beautify and prevent blight in underserved neighborhoods.

Over the past six months, organizers say they made repairs and improvements to more than 4,600 homes.

“I don’t want to get emotional because, what we do with people is because of the love I have and that we have is for the city and we want to make sure the city transcends and we are transcending,” Oswaldo Mestre, Jr., city of Buffalo Citizen Services director, said. “So I can’t say enough for all of the partners here.”

Clean Sweep members say they do everything from cutting lawns and distributing smoke detectors to providing homeless outreach services.
