LOCKPORT, N.Y. — The Red Cross paid tribute to Western New Yorkers who define the world courage.
Spectrum News 1 meteorologist Kaylee Wendt and sports anchor Kevin Carroll served as emcees for the annual Red Cross Real Heroes event at the Transit Drive In in Lockport on Thursday.
This year, 13 people received awards for their dedication and selfless acts of heroism in their communities.
Gene Baran was one of the people honored. His mission of donating blood began decades ago.
“Well, briefly I started donating blood when I was in the military in the 1970s,” Baran said. “And it is something that I continued for 50 years. A half a century. And I reached 300 donations in May of 2021.
Starting Monday on Your Morning on Spectrum News 1, we will be sharing the full 13 stories of those who brought home awards last night.
Spectrum News 1 was a proud sponsor of this event.
