BUFFALO, N.Y. — In just the past week, the Buffalo Police Intelligence Unit executed several search warrants across the city and removed 21 guns from our streets.

According to a press release, six people were also arrested in the process.

The Buffalo Police Department say a majority of the seized weapons were in the possession of previously convicted felons.

“The search warrants executed were conducted in all sections of the City-north, south, east and west,” the BPD said in a release. “Assisting the Buffalo Police Department were Task Force VIPER partners led by the U.S. Attorney's office, Safe Street Task Force, ATF, Erie County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit, the Erie County District Attorney office and Lackawanna Police. Buffalo Police say the Intelligence Unit has already removed 130 guns so far this tear. The detectives in this unit use data driven analysis to focus on illegal guns and people committing violent acts.”

So far this year, the BPD Intelligence Unit has taken 130 guns into their custody.
