BUFFALO, N.Y. — A former 97 Rock radio host fired for making racist comments on the air says he’s working to be accountable to Western New Yorkers.

Rob Lederman spoke with WUFO Radio, apologizing for what he calls an ignorant joke.

The former Morning Bull co-host and the entire morning team were fired from 97 Rock after Lederman made insensitive remarks on the air in March, comparing the color of famous Black women’s skin to burnt toast.

“I have to have this conversation because we have to become better,” he said. “I screwed up, no question. But did I screw up with hurtful intent? Absolutely not.”

Both Lederman and 97 Rock apologized for the comments at the time. Lederman says he is working to change his views and learn from the experience.

Iconic local radio duo Shredd and Ragan have since taken over the morning drive slot on 97 Rock.
