Those who've been working from home have been preparing to return to the office. If that's you, you might feel in limbo amid changing COVID guidance and a surge in positive cases of the delta variant.

A labor and employment attorney working with companies across the region on their coronavirus programs says that many organizations are revising their plans.

Her firm, Harter Secrest & Emery, LLP, recommends limiting risk. You can do that by social distancing and wearing a mask in the workplace.

But for many, one big question remains - whether to mandate vaccinations for workers.

“Not that they can’t legally do it, but if an employee is unwilling to get vaccinated, an employer has to be willing to take some sort of action in response to that, which the most effective action is going to be termination,” Amy Hemenway, a partner at Harter Secrest & Emery, LLP, said. “In today’s environment, employers don’t want to lose a good employee.”

One of the best thing you can do? Plan ahead in case you get sick and review the different types of sick leave that are available to you.
