BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Police say a second gun was recovered following an investigation into the July 22 incident at the Drew Science Magnet School. Police say the gun, which was determined to be inoperable, was found in a student's backpack.
While no new charges will be filed because authorities say the weapon was inoperable and due to the age of the student, a 14-year-old male was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon for a person under 16 years old.
On July 22, Buffalo Police say they discovered a BB gun in a classroom at the school, which is located at the Buffalo Museum of Science. Both buildings were placed in lockdown after reports that there was an 8th grade student with a loaded gun in the building.
Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo said the gun, which they believe appeared to be real, calling it "an exact replica of a Glock handgun," was found after a student told a parent that they saw another student in a bathroom with what appeared to be a handgun. The police were conducting a room-by-room sweep as part of the lockdown.
Police report no shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident.
