GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. — A baseball league dedicated to kids with disabilities is receiving a big boost in funding.

The Miracle League of Western New York is getting $1.1 million through the American Rescue Plan. League members say the money will be used to renovate the league's specialized field and install a splash pad.

The Miracle League on Grand Island allows kids with adaptive needs to play ball in a safe environment, alongside their peers, sometimes including members of the Bisons and Sabres.

"And it's this organization that enables those parents to buy a glove and put it on their children's hands and come out here for a few hours every Sunday and watch their children experience the joy of this game that they love," said Erie County Legislator Kevin Hardwick.

The funding is coming just in time as the Miracle League has been working to make repairs to its facilities after several incidents of vandalism in the last year.
