NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Families love to gather around for the Fourth of July tradition of fireworks. For many, the event has special meaning.

“Sometimes in the day-to-day, you forget what an amazing country we really have and the opportunity we’ve all been given to make a great life for ourselves,” Mike Jensen, Joe Cecconi’s Chrysler president, said. "I think it’s great to come together and remember that.”

In Niagara Falls though, being able to find the funds to provide Fourth of July fireworks was a challenge.

“All of us experienced substantial revenue reduction as a result of the pandemic,” Mayor Robert Restaino explained. “Our budget is a calendar year. It starts in January and ends in December. So we were planning for the 2021 budget cycle when everything was still up in the air.”

He says that when the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions started lifting and the realization hit that Fourth of July fireworks were a reality, he looked for a sponsor to make funding possible.

“He reached out to me pretty much as soon as the state opened up,” Jensen said. “And we had the opportunity to hold events like this and obviously we’re thrilled to be a part of it.”

Restaino says that he is very grateful to have Joe Cecconi’s Chrysler Complex as a sponsor and that city residents are breathing a sigh of relief as life begins to get back to normal.
