KENMORE, N.Y. — All right, wedding party: it’s time to watch the bride and groom cut the...pie?
As unconventional as it may sound, Diane Serra, owner of Caramici’s Bakery in Kenmore, says she has gotten the request before.
“I actually did one wedding where they had all pies,” she said. “And I had made them individual pies to cut and feed themselves.”
Anyone looking to go the more conventional route, however, can get excited for wedding season as well, because Caramici's offers a wide variety of cakes to suit the needs of any wedding party.
Serra has been in the bakery business for over a decade, and most recently, she found a new home for her bakery in the Ken-Ton Elmwood Commons (3200 Elmwood Avenue).
While Caramici's is back into the swing of things, Serra admitted that relocating last fall amid the height of the pandemic didn't make the transition easy, but she still found different avenues that allowed her to accommodate her customers.
“It was slow in the beginning but people still needed birthday cakes, so they would order a small cake and pick it up, and then drop it off to their parents," Serra said. "I would [also] do a lot of deliveries over to UB, because the parents are out of state and their kids are going to school here, so they don’t want to miss their birthdays.”
Another thing Serra attributes to helping her bakery boom once again is having great people on her team like Sheyla, who studied culinary arts at Erie Community College, and Sam, who she befriended in a theatre program.
She says having those great minds in the kitchen with her is what allows Caramici’s to give couples something unique and sweet, just like their special day.
“We just reflect their personality, and I can’t teach that and I can’t explain that," Serra said. "It’s just something that I try to do and I get to do it. I guess it’s a gift.”
