This weekend, Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper is holding its spring sweep. On Saturday, there will be a small group cleanup. To join, visit this website to register.

These groups are being led by Waterkeeper staff members, but on Sunday there is a solo sweep day.

You can help clean up on your own or with family and friends. They will then compile data on what's collected to estimate how much plastic and PPE are in area waterways.

There are easy changes that you can make to help cut down on plastic pollution.

“You can reduce the amount of plastics that you consume by using a reusable water bottle. That’s a great example. One of the number one things that we collect is single use plastic bottle caps that is the one item I know is top-five and what we collect around here.”

If you can't take part this weekend, another small group clean up and solo sweep will be held May 1 and 2.
