SPRINGVILLE, N.Y. — A warning not to drink milk from a Springville farm right now - the state Department of Agriculture and Markets says a sample of unpasteurized, raw milk from Happy Hollow Dairy Farm was found to be contaminated with listeria.

While no illnesses have been reported, listeria can be fatal for young children, cancer patients, elderly people or anyone else with a weakened immune system.

It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

Some symptoms of infection include high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

The department is reminding everyone that raw milk does not go through the protective process of pasteurization, which kills bacteria through heat.

Happy Hollow Dairy Farm is now prohibited from selling raw milk until new samples proved to be safe.

If you purchased the contaminated milk, immediately dispose of it and call the farm at 716-913-2065.
