BUFFALO, N.Y. — Putting a stop to illegal dirt bike and ATV riding in the city of Buffalo, that's the goal of a new program launched by the city and Buffalo Police.

Mayor Byron Brown and Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo say they're offering a $100 reward for information that leads to the confiscation of these vehicles operating illegally on city streets, highways, and in parks.

Both kinds of vehicles are actually illegal to operate on any public road in the state of New York.

Mayor Brown and Rinaldo say they're becoming increasingly concerned after several crashes in Buffalo that have led to injuries, and a recent crash in Rochester that killed two people.

Rinaldo says the department has received hundreds of complaints lately, and the goal is to crack down on this as we inch closer to the warmer months.

It's not happening just in North Buffalo or South Buffalo, it seems to be happening throughout the entire city.

There was a tragedy that just occurred this week in Rochester, where two people were killed and a third was seriously injured from the riding of these ATVS. We've also seen crimes being committed by these people riding ATVs and dirt bikes.

Anyone caught riding an ATV or dirt bike in the city can expect to pay a $2,500 fine, and is also responsible for impound storage fees.
