School districts across Western New York will soon get a big boost from the state for technology upgrades.

This comes after 72 school districts and two special education schools submitted their technology improvement plans to the state. Now, nearly $60 million in state funding is heading to those districts.

Locally, Buffalo stands to receive the most, more than $3.7 million for high-tech security, followed by North Tonawanda, who will get more than $3 million for school security and connectivity, and Niagara Falls, who will receive just shy of $2 million.

These upgrades include new equipment like emergency notification systems and other safety technology as well as tablets, computers, high-speed Internet, and wireless connectivity.
