AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety has closed the Capitol grounds out of an abundance of caution.
Currently, pro-Trump protesters are gathering around the Texas State Capitol. According to Spectrum News 1 reporter Niki Griswold, protesters have remained peaceful.

Many protesterS in Austin are carrying signs saying “Stop the Steal,” echoing President Trump who is contesting the results of the 2020 election.
The grounds recently opened back up to the public afer being closed since March, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Texas Legislative session is also getting ready to return to session next week.
In Washington, the situation is much more dire. Protesters breached the Capitol, forcing a lockdown as lawmakers argued over the validity of the election. One person was shot and killed amid clashes with Trump supporters at the U.S. Capitol, sources tell the Associated Press.
